Satorique Cinema 1
Report by Wolfgang
Servus I'm Wolfgang from Munich and describe in the following lines the construction of a total of 12 Satorique Kino which should act as a supplement to my already existing Satorique MTM as front speakers. Now it finally starts the construction of my new 6 surround speakers and 6 Atmosspeaker. The newly developed Satorique Kino speakers will be used.
In the following photos you can see first of all a total composition of all components and an exemplary assembled Atmos loudspeaker.
I doweled the enclosures for the 6 Atmos speakers with a Festool Domino as you can see in the photos below.
The next step is the gluing of the cabinet still without the front panel, because before that the crossover must be installed.
Front wide speakers and side surrounds each 2 pieces of it are modified in the design so that they can be inserted into my wall paneling. Looks unspectacular, important is what ultimately comes out in audio quality.
My six Atmos speakers are now glued and sanded. In the following photo nicely lined up for painting.
And here is the first coat and before you say where the primer is, this is already included in this acrylic paint.
After the six Atmos speakers were laced and dried, the tweeter and woofer were installed.
The first thing to go in is the Sonofil.
Then the woofer/midrange is wired, the tweeter is wired, and last but not least, the BR tube is brought in.
Sidesurround and backsurround speakers are already pre-assembled and are being glued now.
The pre-assembled Backsurround.
Two sidesurrounds, two front-wide and two Bachksurround speakers are now glued and sanded. Crossover and damping is also already in, now it's time to paint.
Finished painting.
In the meantime, all speakers are assembled, painted, tested for function and installed at their destination.
The Atmos speakers are positioned at a 45 degree angle with respect to the reference position and aligned with a 20 degree bevel to the reference position.
Atmos front right and left.
Atmos center right + Atmos back right.
Atmos center left + Atmos back left.
The raw installation can be seen. All gaps as well as the speakers themselves are still covered with acoustic fabric. Lower listening level next to the front speakers. Front wide left + right.
Sidesurround left + right.
Backsurround left + right The housing was extended upwards to create a mounting option. BR and connection terminal are located here within the extension.
All speakers are controlled and calibrated via a Trinnov Altitude 16 and fired by a whole armada of power amplifiers.
In the meantime, I have been running my hobby home theater for more than 10 years and have been able to call several speaker setups my own during that time. With the Satoriques I now have the feeling to have arrived. The speakers are level stable and have an excellent sound which can also show its advantages with music recordings.
The photos show the calibration microphone of the Trinnov preamplifier below Oppo203 and at the top a Sony VPL VW 760 with ISCO Anamorphot. The two photos show the current state of the installation, which is not yet final. Various absorbers and panels are still missing.
As power amplifiers I use Crown XLS 1502 and 1002. For the bass management among other things also a T.Amp Proline 3000.
Satorique home cinema Live 15 & Satorique cinema Wall 13
My cinema consisted of a classic 5.2 system, an acoustically transparent screen and a Sony projector. My desire to have a 7.1.4 setup with an SBA or DBA for the low frequency, as well as to have the cinema professionally acoustically optimized came closer.
First, however, I would like to realize identical speakers or at least identical chassis for a balanced sound on the listening level. This would mean, however, that I would have to dig deep into my pocket, because in the front area I had the CWM 7.3 in operation. Conclusion: Ouch!
So I took a look at the videos of the Heimkinoclub München. And lo and behold, 4 members run their cinema with self-made speakers from Satorique.de. So I took the phone and discussed my project with Marcus.
Afterwards I sent him a room drawing as well as a written plan how I could imagine the future cinema. A few phone calls later I received the first Sketchup drawing. My first thought: Oh shit, that's a lot of subwoofers...In the following phone call we discussed the same.
I decided first for the 7 speakers on the listening level, 4 of the subwoofers and 4 treble speakers.
When the parcel boat with 2 sack trucks full of packages stood in front of the door I knew, now it finally goes.
The hardware store cut me the MDF boards for the speakers to size, so it could go to work. From Marcus I got the baffles for the surrounds and for the top parts of the front speakers sent.
First I took care of the surrounds
In no time, everything was assembled according to the instructions that I received by mail. Connected to a Rotel stereo amplifier, the first sounds came out of the speakers. After a few hours of playing, I sat down on the chair for the listening test.
Conclusion: super awesome!
No comparison to the B6W 685, which previously played in the living room. In the bass somewhat restrained, but it is in the end also surround LS. The highs and mids, however, very detailed, I find.
Now it was time to build the front bolides
The construction took a little longer, of course, but no matter. By the way, I painted all speakers with a color (black matt) from www.Speakerbuddies.eu. A tip from Marcus. No priming is necessary. Right! :-)
When we had humped the speakers to two in the living room, aligned and connected, it was clear, the couch must go. Living room quickly rearranged and off we went with the next listening test.
The manual said about 60 hours. After about 15 hours, I again took a seat on the armchair and chose Brothers in Arms.
Madness, what arrived at the ear. Marcus did not promise too much.
No matter for what I decided,
Green day - oh love -
AC/DC - Thunderstruck -
Annett Louisan - reality -
Al Jarreau - your song -
Jack Johnson - my mind is for Sale -
Everything the absolute hammer! Especially the bass. Dry, hard and pretty fast.
Thanks Marcus and the whole team of satorique.de. Bomb work. I have never heard music like this before.
Now only the height speakers are missing and then it goes to the actual cinema construction.
