Satorique Autentico loudspeaker
The speaker for lovers of classic speaker tuning.
Inspiration
On a free Saturday with beautiful weather I allowed myself a timeout in the Eifel. That was still possible at this time before the next lockdown came. The Dreimühlen waterfall with its hiking trails was the day's destination. If you happen to be in the vicinity and feel like taking some time out, I can recommend the destination south of Üxheim-Ahütte. Enjoying fresh air and clearing your head is the goal of such a day. It's wonderful to sit out here at the old water mill on one of the last late summer days and watch people enjoying their coffee with cake and letting the sun's rays warm them. You notice how people appreciate even the simple things again.
But then you should also turn off your cell phone,
... because a vibration in my jacket pocket tore me from my rest. Since my curiosity won out, I ventured a look at my phone's message inbox.
"All day I dream of a Satorique speaker I can afford. A Satorique for my living room that is movie ready and meets today's standards for music and bass lines." wrote R. Philip to me via email.
To get to the heart of the request: An all in one package for the living room including a built-in subwoofer.
Now the thoughts took their course and the head was back in design mode. Could all of Philip's wishes be realized together in one project? Speaker sound with Satorique genes and built-in subwoofer, but not so expensive? Would it really be an option to develop such a loudspeaker as Philip would like? After all, the expectations are high for such a loudspeaker concept.
My ambition was aroused, and I could get my head around the idea of fulfilling individual customer requirements again. It would be a real pity not to let everyone participate in high-quality loudspeaker DIY.
So I set to work on the project.
Concept & Realization
Based on the concept of the old days, our speaker also takes into account today's music and film bass requirements. Low bass, as it is presented in movies and music styles like deep house, is usually only hinted at by the "old" candidates, but no longer played cleanly. However, the Autentico 3 is supposed to reproduce the complete bass range properly. In my opinion, this is an art in itself.
We just proved that the old and the new are not necessarily mutually exclusive with the presentation of the Satorique Live. Speaker concepts rarely reinvent themselves completely. Often, it is proven concepts that are put in a new light by new driver technologies.

Some such tried-and-true driver combinations used to consist of a woofer constructed with a paper or polypropylene diaphragm, depending on taste, and a fiber-reinforced midrange driver. For the soft sound there was still a fabric dome. Alternatively, for lovers of the somewhat harder sound, a metal dome was also used.
However, the developers at that time were not confronted with wishes that today's movie lovers have. The old candidates would have had their difficulties with today's movies and music styles such as deep house. Because, if I remember back to my own time, there were only a few people who owned a VCR and could tell that the mono speaker from the TV could be upgraded to stereo.

The Autentico 3 is now supposed to reproduce the complete bass range harmoniously. The prerequisite for this is a very low tuning to reproduce the low bass, as well as the lively bass presentation and a naturally fine-drawing upper bass. To meet these requirements, we use an Autentico driver that cannot deny its subwoofer ambitions and plays down to about 800 Hz, comparable to a normal woofer . Another plus is its uncanny level stability. The 24 mm linear playability is not exhaustible and thus the driver allows both low distortion in the bass and full control at high volume.
Starting at the upper bass, the midrange driver also plays along. The midrange driver has very low distortion, so even levels of 100 dB are no problem for the driver. It slowly approaches its thermal performance limit. The driver is also very balanced in omnidirectional sound. The tweeter now incorporates a good acquaintance, the Satorique's Ringdome, which was reserved for Satorique speakers in the past. In the Autentico setup, the Ringdome is responsible for the silky smooth high frequency. The crossover circuit is designed with flat edges. This allows for a pleasantly balanced and homogeneous sound.
The enclosure construction
Three options for successful implementation for your Autentico:
- The complete cut as a housing kit with 3D baffle, which you already know from Satorique speakers, is also available for the Autentico.
- Or you take only the 3D baffle and get the rest of the cut at the hardware store.
- The third option would be to build the complete cabinet yourself (instructions are included in the kit).
If you have any questions regarding the construction of the enclosure, I will be happy to help and advise you, no matter which version you choose.

The popular Aqua surface filler had to be used for the Autentico
It dries quickly and can be finely sanded. Black boat paint I still have in the house. So I could try a new style.

It was applied with a roller and removed directly with a cloth in one direction.
The front I have again lightly sanded, so it gets a gray weathered look.

Droning is done with Bitumex.
High quality binding posts are also part of the Autentico kit.
Professional crossover design and construction for an audiophile sound experience
The Autentico crossovers are supplied fully assembled. Besides the price, you should also consider this when choosing your kit. Because the crossover quality has a significant influence on the entire construct.

Sound

All the fine music details come out, supported by the 8-inch woofer for excellent cinema dynamics. It is already an audiophile experience that comes close to the claims of our Satorique series. With the Autentico, everyone gets their money's worth.
It masters difficult Blue Ray scenes nonchalantly, without the typical harshness known from such a candidate in the midrange. The sound of the Autentico can best be described as "universal". There is nothing that the Autentico doesn't play beautifully. It plays without being annoying, exhausting or tiring. The drivers used here are also sensational in their fine resolution.
The fact that this 3-way speaker plays as if from a single mold is also due to the developer's art of crossover optimization. Well then, have fun with your Autentico. Wherever, whether as a high-end pleasure for stereo or in the home living room cinema with a matching center.
* For your home theater, we recommend a suitable center to the Autentico.
Conclusion
Stereo high-end and home theater for the living room need not be a contradiction as the Autentico proves.
